Textblocks are tanned and foxed but clear and readable. Vol. 1 has faint pencilled brackets on pages 15 and 17. Fold-out excerpt of a letter bound in Vol 1. All textblock edges are dust-grimed and stained. Textblocks are tight. Front and back boards at spines are reinforced to spine (1.5" top, 1/2" bottom) with leather strip. Vol. 3 bottom reinforcement is detached but present. Leather spines are worn and split. Title "J" in name is scratched out on Vol. 1. Leather corners are worn, chipped, frayed and bumped. Scrawl on first end page Vol. 1. Previous owners' names on first free end page. Scribble on second to last free end page with small dogear at bottom. Vol. 2 has a previous owner's name on first free end page and three other names on second free end page. Last free end page is dogearred at bottom. Vol. 3 has previous owner's names on first and second free end pages.
